3rd Assistant Scoutmaster Applicants Now Being Sought
IAC 2010 National Jamboree Troop Scoutmasters are now accepting resumes for the position of 3rd Assistant Scoutmaster for IAC 2010 National Jamboree Troops. To be eligible, 3rd Assistant Scoutmaster applicants must be age 18-20 during the period of July 1 – August 4, 2010. Applicants must be BSA registered, recommended by the IAC Troop Scoutmaster, and approved by the IAC. Applicants should submit their resume directly to the Troop Scoutmaster's.

2010 National Jamboree Staff Positions (Youth and Adult)
The IAC has a tradition of bringing a large contingency of youth and adults to work on staff at the National Jamboree. 2010 will not be different. The IAC Steering Committee encourages staff participation. All adults and youth who are interested and qualified are asked to consider a Jamboree Staff position.

At this time, the National Jamboree has not provided information to the IAC Steering Committee concerning staff applications for the 2010 National Jamboree. As soon as that information becomes available, it will be posted on this site. It is anticipated that it will be several months before that will occur.

Jamboree staff positions are open to youth and adult men and women who meet specified National Jamboree qualifications. It is anticipated that the age requirement for adults will be that applicants must have been born before July 26, 1989. Likewise, age requirements for youth staff members are expected to be that the youth must have been born between August 4, 1989, and July 26, 1994. All staff must be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America and approved by their local council.

Jamboree staff provides all the support and program services needed for an outstanding event. Volunteer staff operates everything from bus service and telephone systems to a hospital and first-aid stations, police and fire departments, post offices, food warehouses, a daily newspaper, retail stores (trading posts), and action centers. Without the help of Scouters to go to Jamboree and work on staff, the 2010 National Jamboree would not be possible.

Jamboree staff will provide service in the following areas:

Background
The 2010 National Jamboree will be held at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia from July 26 through August 4, 2010. It is anticipated that over 40,000 Scouts from across the United States and from other countries will attend. The 2010 Jamboree will celebrate the 100th year anniversary of Scouting in the United States.

Continuing its strong tradition of attendance of BSA National Jamborees, the Istrouma Area Council (IAC) will send a contingency of Scouts, adult leaders, and staff to the 2010 National Jamboree. To manage this process, the council established the IAC 2010 National Jamboree Steering Committee. The committee is responsible for organizing, planning, and managing the IAC’s 2010 National Jamboree contingency and program.

The steering committee was formed in August of 2007. Recruiting and filling of the IAC Jamboree Troop adult leader positions for the five IAC Troops were the first priorities. The committee selected 15 Scouters to fill Scoutmaster, 1st Assistant Scoutmaster, and 2nd Assistant Scoutmaster positions for each Troop. A 3rd Assistant Scoutmaster will be selected by the adult Troop leadership for each of the respective Jamboree Troops. Those selections will be made from young adult Scouter applicants whose Jamboree age will be from 18 to 20 years old. The committee and selected Jamboree adult Troop leaders will complete the IAC contingency plan including pre-Jamboree tour arrangements.

IAC Scouts and Webelos will be recruited to fill the five IAC Troops. Generally to be eligible for the 2010 National Jamboree, a Scout must be at least 12 years old by July 1, 2010, and may not have reached age 18 before August 4, 2010. He must also be at least a 1st Class Scout. For more information, see the Youth Qualifications and Recruitment Flyer.

Each Troop will consist of 36 Scouts organized into Troop leadership and four patrols of eight Scouts. Every Troop will select four Scouts to fill the Sr. Patrol Leader, Assistant Sr. Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, and Troop Scribe positions. Each patrol will have at a minimum a Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. The patrol method will be used at Jamboree and while on tour.

In addition to attending the National Jamboree, IAC Scouts and their Troop leaders will take a pre-Jamboree tour to an east coast venue. This tour will begin several days before the Jamboree and will end at Fort A.P. Hill.

For more information about the IAC’s 2010 Jamboree contingency, contact any IAC 2010 Steering Committee member. This website will be updated as other information becomes available.
